Penn State DuBois Honors Scholar Application for Fall 2025 will be open from October 1 to December 31, 2024.

Please complete and send in all application materials so that we receive them by the deadline. We will contact students selected for further consideration in January to schedule in-person interviews. All students will be notified of their status in the Program by February 1, 2025.

  1. Ensure that you plan to attend Penn State DuBois for at least two full years if admitted to the Honors Scholar Program (through at least Spring 2026). This is needed to ensure an appropriate timeframe to complete all requirements of the program.
  2. Apply to Penn State DuBois online. (Current students may skip steps 2-3)
  3. Forward your high school transcripts and any test scores (SAT, ACT, etc.) to the University.
  4. Provide one letter of recommendation from a non-family member who is able to fully support your application to the Penn State DuBois Honors Scholar Program.
  5. Respond to all parts of the essay questions below.

Student Status
Provide information on your personal activities from high school and outside of your academic life.
Provide a personal statement on your interest in the Honors Scholar Program and why you think you would be a valuable addition to the Program.
Imagine you’ve been given the task of designing a college curriculum. What would that curriculum consist of? For example, what areas of study would you include and why? How would you structure the classes? What other qualities would your curriculum include? (250-500 words suggested)
One of the requirements for Penn State DuBois Honors Scholars Program is that Scholars “participate in at least one international trip by the end of their second year,” either through the campus honors program or Penn State Global Programs. Think of a city in foreign country that is at the top of your ‘must-visit countries’ bucket list’ and put together a 4-day itinerary with excursions/activities for each day. These activities should be both educational (with history, culture and economic components) and fun. Your itinerary should include the day (i.e. day 1, day 2 etc) and detailed description of the activity for each day. Note: Penn State DuBois provides a grant to Honors Scholars to subsidize their international experience.
As an Honors Scholar you will be required to “be an active member" of at least one [campus] club [or organization], serving as an officer if possible. Name at least one existing club or organization at Penn State DuBois in which you’d like to participate. Explain how your past experiences would help you contribute positively to this club. Besides the existing clubs or organizations, can you think of one (new) that you would like to create and explain how it would serve the campus or the community?
